Two people were injured in a Tucson car accident near Sahuarita Sunday.
According to officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on northbound Interstate 19 at KM 82, near Pima Mine Road. Officers described the accident as a "multiple vehicle, multiple injury" collision. The DPS Public Information Duty Officer could not provide details on the nature of the crash.
Traffic on northbound I-19 was expected to be backed up for a number of hours as DPS officials investigated the accident. The Arizona DPS Duty Office released a statement shortly before 5:00 p.m. Sunday saying: "At this time, we are still assessing the situation and determining the number of vehicles and patients involved. The roadway is partially blocked at this time and traffic is backed up in that area. Please check back with us later and I will hopefully be able to give you more updated information."
Shortly after 6:00 p.m Sunday the DPS listed the accident as a three-vehicle collision. Two people were transported by ambulance to University Medical Center for treatment. No information on the nature or extent of their injuries was available.
