Authorities in Tucson discovered the body of a man involved in a car crash last weekend in an irrigation canal in Marana Wednesday.

Northwest firefighters along with officers of the Marana Police Department, uncovered the body shortly after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday in a canal near Marana Junior High School. The investigation was spurred by the victim's sister telling firefighters her brother had been missing.

According to officials with the Northwest Fire Department, a car crashed early sunday and veered off Interstate 10 near the Marana exit. One man was injured in the crash, and no other victims were found.

Firefighters and police returned to the crash scene Wednesday afternoon and conducted another search. Authorities say the body was found after water was drained from the canal.
