Two young women were severely injured in a trailer explosion that occurred during the annual Labor Day Rodeo in Sonoita, Arizona. Reports indicate that the explosion was triggered when one of the women lit a match inside the trailer, which had filled with propane gas because of a leak in the tank.
The Sonoita-Elgin fire department was stationed at the rodeo in case of emergency and firefighters were able to respond to the explosion immediately. The two women were airlifted to Phoenix for treatment. According to a relative of one of the victims, at least one of the women sustained second- and third-degree burns from the accident.
Both victims are currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the Marcia Medical Center burn unit in Phoenix.
