A Tucson police officer who was struck by a semi-truck while tending to a traffic incident on the shoulder of I-10 is expected to recover from what life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred last Thursday, and left the ofifcer with internal injuries and broken bones. He faces a number of surgeries and a lengthy recovery, but medical staff have said they expect a full recovery.

The officer is a 25 year veteran of the Tucson Police Department and is only six months from retirement.

The Department of Public Safety is in charge of the investigation. It hasn't made a determination as to who is at fault in the accident. The incident is still under investigation.
